Major: Journalism/Print
Year: Senior
I came to be a journalism major in a roundabout way. I started out at Penn State as an animal science major with dreams of becoming a veterinary. It took me two years to realize those dreams would not happen - quite frankly, I just don't have the brains needed for chemistry. But while I was still planning to become a farm manager, I joined The Daily Collegian, Penn State's independently-run student newspaper. When I wrote that first article for the paper, something just clicked and I quickly realized that a new dream was forming. Three years later, I still love reporting and have been given wonderful opportunities through my experiences at the Collegian. Last summer, I interned at USA Today in McLean, Va. - a dream come true to be in such a large newsroom with some of the best reporters and editors in the country.
As I look forward to graduating this semester, I hope to combine the skills I've learned inside the classroom with those I've learned at the Collegian and USA Today in the hopes of securing a future as a newspaper reporter willing to tell stories in many forms, whether it be through writing, video, audio or any other way readers wish to consume the news.
