Halloween at Penn State: 2008
PSU College of CommunicationsFor a group project students from the Convergence Journalism class fanned out across campus to document the nuttiness that makes Halloween at Penn State a unique experience. They found a wide variety of costumes, from a Bobblehead inspired by the television show "The Office," to a group forming the pieces to a Tetris puzzle, to a Brett Favre re-enactor and an Italian sub. All spiced up with a liberal sprinkling of sterile sheep blood, courtesy of students from the forensics science club.

Bobbling Around
Mike Stroka (senior-industrial engineering) spent Thursday and Friday walking through State College with a 15-pound paper mache head. He was inspired by the character Dwight Schrute from NBC's "The Office" and said he won prizes in each of his classes for his creative costume. I spent Friday afternoon as he walked the streets of State College, garnering high fives, honks and gasps.

Tetris Roommates Terrorize Town
Jessica Remitz, Julia Beebe, Siobhan Leonard and Melissa Troop decided they didn't want to don predictable Halloween costumes this year. So, with a quick Google search, they came up with a group costume they believed was very original and will hopefully win them a spring break a local bar was offering. The four roommates decided to make their costumes from scratch and became the classic computer game Tetris.

Penn State Chainsaw Massacre
Penn State's Forensic Science Club held a haunted house over Halloween weekend to raise money. Hundreds of people showed up each night to hear the tale of the Penn State Chainsaw Massacre. The club splattered sterile sheep's blood around the Pine and Spruce Cottage on campus to give the crime scene a more realistic touch. The haunted house was such a success, the club hopes to make it an annual event.

Being Brett Favre
Jim Sparvero is a diehard football fan and for Halloween he dressed up as Brett Farve from the Wrangler Jeans commercial. Sparvero was inspired so much by the commercial that for this project he has made a remake video of the Wrangler Jean commercial.

Halloween on College Avenue
Halloween fell this year on a Friday night. Celebrating Halloween by dressing up as outrageous characters also happens to be a Penn State tradition. To document the festivities, I set up a camera on one of Penn State's busiest streets, College Avenue to see what type of interesting characters I would find roaming the streets on Halloween night.
